Gratitude
There was a day when the river stopped running, and stones were taken from dry land. For the sake of His people, God’s Grace was shown over and over again.
Have we forgotten?
There was a day, when innocent blood ran through time, Washing that day and every other from the corruption of mankind.
Have we forgotten?
We look down on those who forgot, but then turn to each other to say “This is our shot. Look what we’ve done. Look what we’ve built.” We take the credit as if it were never His, And use it to displace our guilt.
Those who wandered saw their miracles the way we see the cross; After we’ve been given everything, We can only think about what we’ve never had, Or think we’ve lost.
But what if we listened to The Father instead? What if it was His voice loudest in our head?
“Child, what’s changed since you first believed? Why do you forget me the moment you’re freed? There’s nothing for my people to fear, No power nor pain. What could you possibly be searching for When you have nothing left to gain? Has your memory loosened so you think your chains weren’t tight? I’ve written this story. This is my fight. I haven’t forgotten that you are only dust, But I’ve asked you to trust Because what I’ve given holds more than your fragile world. So where is that joy that you felt before? Do you honestly believe this world could give more? I’ve nailed your debt to the cross with my son. Know who I am. Look what I’ve done. Child, have you forgotten?”
To be grateful, is to remember. Remember that the chains were tight And death came in the night And the only way out was through. But He gave us His son, The only one who could walk through death And come out the other side. We are His Church, so we should be the first To remember His work.
And as we remember, Our joy will grow. Then more and more will know That God’s people walked on dry land, And one of them was His son.
Now let us refuse to forget. And let all of heaven hear His people shout in praise, “Look what God has done.”
